I am the Head of Revenue Operations for Unlock Technologies where we invest in residential properties to help our customers use the equity in their home without taking out a loan.  My primary responsibilities evolve around providing a consistent customer experience while maintaining regulatory and privacy compliance.  I also manage the data and reporting functions necessary for our marketing and sales teams.

I have been a Segment customer multiple times going back 6 or 7 years and I also spent a year as a solution architect on the Segment professional services team.

Hey Chris, welcome! Wow! 6 to 7 years working with Segment? That’s impressive. Can you share the biggest win Segment you ever had with Segment? And what was your worst experience?

@Andrew Ferreira good questions.  The worst experience is easy, and it wasn’t really a Segment issue it was an environment issue.  I was working someplace that has 600 websites on multiple different platforms all pretending to be one website using a WAF configuration.  The organization had really bad reporting because there was no central management of GA/GTM on these sites, so we tried to resolve this issue by deploying Segment analytics.js across each site which would give us the ability to do basic page and form tracking across the organization.  Unfortunately we were never able to identify all the site owners and only got to about 50% coverage before the project was shut down.

As for best experiences, there are a lot.  I helped a variety of customers when I worked at Segment, but I really enjoy my current implementation.  My organization has embraced Segment as the central platform where all data goes.  We have also been pushing our partners for over a year to default to server-to-server tracking leveraging a lot of custom function destinations to make that a reality.

WOW! Thanks for sharing both experiences. We are still in the process of implementing Segment as the central platform where all data goes, but I still have a feeling we are not leveraging 100% of what Segment can do for my organization. That’s why I asked those questions, but it sounds like we are indeed heading in the right direction.
